The Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA) Public Plans Community (PPC) released a second edition of their 2014 white paper “Actuarial Funding Policies and Practices for Public Pension Plans.”  The second edition reflects, among other things, “updates to Actuarial Standards of Practice and nearly a decade of experience applying the guidance from the original white paper as well as emerging practices.”  Click here to access the white paper.

The Social Security Trust funds will be able to pay 100% of total scheduled benefits until 2035, one year later than reported last year. View the 2024 Social Security Report.

Due to assumptions regarding improved economic conditions, the Medicare HI trust fund is now expected to remain funded through 2036, five years later than reported in the previous year.

The Social Insurance and Public Finance Section, and the International Section co-sponsored a research effort that is focused on paid family and medical leave programs (PFML) in the US and around the world. The primary goal is to identify the features and actuarial considerations of international PFML programs and how lessons learned from them can help shape developing programs in the US. The results of the research includes a summary of the programs and illustrates the range of benefits.
