Brief Description of Current Work
At Deloitte, I consult with insurers and their stakeholders to help transform actuarial functions and enhance the measurement and management of the financial performance of their business. I have also served as the leader of Deloitte’s US and global Actuarial & Insurance Solutions practices, as well as client teams and go-to-market initiatives. I began my career at CIGNA and spent 12 years at Arthur Andersen prior to Deloitte. My career has allowed me to collaborate with colleagues and clients on six continents and has given me the opportunity to work closely with actuaries from life & annuity, health, retirement, and P&C practice areas. I currently serve on the Board of the Chief Actuaries Forum.
Primary Area(s) of Practice

Bio
I grew up in Omaha and studied at the University of Nebraska, but I have spent my entire career on the East Coast, first near Hartford, CT and now in New York City. My career journey from industry to consulting has given me the opportunity to work not only with actuaries of all practice areas, but also with other professionals specializing in areas like strategy, investments, technology, accounting, and human capital. Through my consulting and professional volunteer roles, I have been privileged to know and work with actuaries from all over the world. My volunteer experience, spanning over 35 years, has taken me from the classroom to the boardroom, including serving the SOA and the profession as follows:
- Exam 150 committee-1988-1992
- SOA International Section Council member/Chair-2007-2010
- AAA standard of practice committee member-2007,2018-2021
- SOA delegate to the International Actuarial Association (IAA)-2008-2019
- Vocalist and trombone player for the “Regulators”-2009-present
- SOA board member and Vice President-2010-2015
- IAA monograph author-2012-2018
- University of Nebraska actuarial program advisory board member-2014-present
- Columbia University actuarial program presenter and advisory board member-2014-present
- SOA textbook author-2017-present
- International Financial Reporting for Insurers POG member and instructor-2020-2023
- Chief Actuaries Forum Board Member-2023-present
- Frequent author and presenter-Ongoing
I was honored to receive the SOA Presidential Award in 2015 and the SOA Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2019.
My experiences have uniquely prepared me for serving as President-Elect of the SOA by helping me build:
- Perspective on the profession
Gained by working in both industry and consulting, serving clients on six continents, collaborating both within my firm and among my clients with actuaries and other professionals of varied backgrounds, disciplines, experience levels, practice areas, and competencies. - Global exposure and relationships
Through my client work and volunteer experience, particularly with the International Actuarial Association, I have insight regarding the SOA’s global membership and the global positioning of the SOA.
- Connections to the SOA’s core competencies
As a former exam committee member, a member of two university actuarial program advisory boards, a frequent “on-campus” presenter, SOA textbook author, and IFRI POG member/instructor, I have valuable experience with the SOA’s core competencies of education and research. - Focus on the future of the profession
I helped develop Deloitte’s point of view and proposition around the future of actuarial work and will leverage perspectives gained from that experience as an SOA board member and President-Elect. - Leadership experience
Experiences from both my professional career and volunteer experience, including serving on the SOA Board, will be valuable as I take on this important leadership role for the SOA.
My experiences have shown me the importance of the work we do as a profession. They have also revealed how crucial our internal and external partnerships are. As an integrator of people and ideas, with a knack and passion for curiosity, questioning and listening, creativity, and communicating simply what I understand deeply, I look forward to working with you to further strengthen these relationships with the goal of unlocking our full potential and maximizing our impact.
In my personal life, I love walking the streets and parks of New York and, in 2022, I took on the challenge of the New York marathon! The course was difficult for sure, but I was energized by my training partners and throughout the race by the supportive spectators shouting words of encouragement, raising signs with motivational messages, and offering high fives. I also love music—I enjoy listening to music (especially while walking!), making music (I sing and play the trombone, and my band, the Regulators, has performed on the SOA stage!), and sharing music with colleagues, family, and friends (yes, I am a big karaoke fan!).
The marathon and music are both pictures of the strength and potential of our great profession. Both require extensive training, passion, and commitment. Partnership is also crucial, whether it be in the preparation, through the energy and momentum gained from rising to the challenge together, or in the response from the “audience.” I am committed to working with you and on your behalf to better connect us with each other and our collaborative partners to take on the challenge and cheer each other on. With your support, we can Amplify the wonderful music the SOA is already making by adding more verses, more voices and harmonies, and broadcasting our message more loudly and clearly to a wider audience!
