There are several ways you can engage and lead within Communities beyond simply enjoying its core benefits. Whether you’re interested in creating content, sparking meaningful conversations, or leading discussions, there are a variety of opportunities for you to contribute and be a thought leader. Each Community will be led by a mix of elected and non-elected volunteer roles. The Community Advisory Team (9-12 elected members) provides strategic guidance, while the Content and Engagement Work Group (non-elected members) and Topic Subgroups support discussions, content creation, and networking.

Take the lead in shaping the activities and professional development programs within one of the Communities. As part of the Community Advisory Team, you can offer strategic guidance, support career growth, and mentor individuals within the Community. Through these roles, you can collaborate, share knowledge, provide resources, and create valuable networking opportunities for the Community. The Team consists of 9-12 elected members dedicated to driving these initiatives. The Team also oversees the Content and Engagement Work Group and Topic Subgroup volunteers.
You can run for a position on the Community Advisory Teams during the 2025 election cycle. The call for nominations period is open through May 23, 2025
The Content and Engagement Work Group plays an essential role in supporting the Communities by developing valuable content and fostering active participation. It focuses on creating well-organized and engaging resources, including topic calls, articles, webcasts, and podcasts, covering relevant and impactful topics that promote professional growth in the actuarial field, as well as cultivates a collaborative and inclusive environment by organizing networking events, facilitating discussions, and welcoming new members.
This group consists of non-elected positions. You will be able to participate and volunteer within the Content and Engagement Work Group beginning in fall 2025.
Communities offer a new opportunity to create specialized topic area Subgroups within the broader community. For example, the existing Emerging Topics Community has subgroups on AI and Climate Change and the Health Community features a Medicaid Subgroup. You do not need to be an elected member to lead a Subgroup. Subgroups allow members to dive deeper into specialized topics. Connect with members in your region by joining a Subgroup focused on a geographical area. Subgroup volunteers foster focused discussions with peers through interactive topic calls to discuss cutting-edge subjects as well as access to a listserv for asynchronous communications.
You will be able to participate and volunteer with Subgroups beginning in fall 2025.
